INSCRIPT (Indian Script keyboard) is a standardized keyboard layout developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). It is phonetically consistent across all Indian scripts. The ि matra is typed AFTER the consonant, unlike Remington GAIL.
Which exams use INSCRIPT layout?
Some state government exams and UP government recruitment use INSCRIPT. The layout is also mandated by BIS IS 16350 standard for official use.
How is INSCRIPT different from Remington GAIL?
In INSCRIPT, characters are typed in the phonetic order you see on screen — ि is typed after the consonant. In Remington GAIL, ि is typed before the consonant. INSCRIPT is generally easier to learn for beginners.
